See what he had to say about his alma mater: VT: Describe the campus setting and transportation options.How urban or safe is the campus?Are there buses or do you need a car/bike? Benjamin: There is plenty of parking, but its expensive. However, you really dont need a car because everythingincluding off-campus housingis close to campus. The campus is also finally getting more bike friendly, with racks, divided walkways, etc. Regarding safety, I think the school does well as a whole to keep crime under control. I never feel unsafe on campus. VT: How available are the professors, academic advisers, and teaching assistants? Benjamin: Faculty are typically very approachable, especially for small classes. I developed some really great relationships that I still cherish today.VT: How would you describe the dorm life - rooms, dining options, location, socialization opportunities with other students?Benjamin:Dorm life at Wash U was definitely a highlight, especially with the newly constructed dining hall. However, food was really expensive, so you're definitely paying for quality. Regarding housing, it's almosttoonice. I liked living in an older dorm that felt like college; the new dorms feel more like hotels. VT: Which majors/programs are best represented and supported?What did you study and why? Did the university do a good job supporting your particular area of study? Benjamin: Yes and no. I double-majored in Environmental Science and Anthropology. Wash U is GREAT for Anthropology and I loved all of my classes and faculty, many of which were renowned in their field. However, despite an apparent push for sustainability on campus, Environmental Science was a very poor major. Classes did not provide tangible skills andunless you went the science routeit was pretty much a joke. VT: How easy or difficult was it for you to meet people and make friends as a freshman? Does Greek life play a significant role in the campus social life? Benjamin: I didnt vibe well with the Greek Life scene, so the fact that around 40% of undergrads were Greek was sort of a let down. However, there are other places to make good friends and the school is large enough to find people like you. VT: How helpful is the Career Centerand other student support services?Do many reputable companies recruit on campus? Benjamin: If you use the resources provided, they are extremely helpful. The CC is definitely catered to business students, which is a bummer, but my career advisor was nonetheless amazing and an exceptional resource. In general, though, the school is very focused on your future success and less so on your immediate needs. VT: How are the various study areas such aslibraries, student union, and dorm lounges? Are they over-crowded, easily available, spacious? Benjamin: There were a ridiculous amount of libraries, which was nice. However, I always found the main library extremely depressing and stressful. Generally, there are plenty of places to study and they are usually not too crowded. This makes sense considering people are constantly studying. VT: Describe the surrounding town. What kinds of outside establishments / things to do are there that make it fun, boring, or somewhere in between?To what extent do students go to the downtown area of the city versus staying near campus? Benjamin: Every year I grew to love St. Louis more, but it definitely was not love at first sight. There are pockets of culture throughout the city, so once you find them, there is a lot to do and see. Most students typically only make it to a nearby street called the Delmar Loop, which is decorated with bars, shops, and eateries. St. Louis is actually fun once you get to know it! VT: How big or small is the student body? Were you generally pleased or displeased with the typical class sizes? Benjamin: I went the science route, so I was actually displeased with the class size, as they were always large and filled with pre-med students. I went in expecting to see the advertised small class sizes, but in reality, mine were quite large. That being said, most of my friends had small classes and those of mine that were small were great. VT: Describe one memorable experience with a professor and/or class. Perhaps one you loved the most or one youregretthe most. Benjamin: I worked in a digital primate lab run by one of my professors of physical anthropology. Although I enjoyed learning about primate behaviour through video observation, this experience was incredible because of the relationship I built with this professor. What’s more, chapbooks tend to be quite short in length, and usually have no more than 30 pages.Chapbooks are a great tool for poets as they can help prepare poets for the process of writing and publishing a lon ger manuscript, and chapbooks can also be used as a way to reach out to an audience, build your name, and show potential publishers your talent.Once you’ve decided you’d like to put together a chapbook, the question becomes which poems should you include, and how many? When selecting your poems, think about whether the poems gel well together in terms of your theme or concept, and try to only include your best pieces in the chapbook â€" after all, you’re looking to impress and appeal to new readers!Join poetry courses London now or find poetry courses online.This means that you should also try to start off your chapbook with a bang, and have your best poem, or at least one of your very best, right at the start of the chapbook. Some greeting card companies like to use poems as messages in their cards, so you could try and reach out to those companies to see whether they would consider any of your works.If you do decide to go down this route, make sure to research the greeting card company thoroughly, know who the key contacts at the company are, and understand their target audience and the range of cards they sell. Essentially, treat any potential client with the professionalism you would expect in your day job, and you’ll be in a great position to start pitching for work.Another option is to try and break into songwriting, which is in many ways closely related to poetry. It’s a competitive market to break into, but it can be very satisfying to know that there’s a band or musician out there playing your words on a nightly basis to crowds of people.Other avenues also include working as a freelance writer more generally, o r to look for poetry writing gigs on sites such as Upwork or Fiverr. While these jobs tend to be low paid, it can be a great way to see some money come through for your work. If you go down this route, it pays to be flexible, so be prepared to write short fiction, free verse, contemporary poetry, or any other written work that will require good use of your imagination.And, of course, there is always teaching as another option. Teachers or tutors won’t get to spend much time writing poetry but you could get satisfaction from being immersed in the world of poetry and teaching others about the subject. Let us discourage you from making your first forays into the world of watercolour painting with one of those sets.Walking into any art supply store, you may become overwhelmed by the dazzling array of choices and products available for art creation.Unless you’ve done a hefty bit of research on your own or you have a painting instructor giving you recommendations, you may wonder what selections would best suit your needs.Consider these points...Choosing Watercolor PaperObviously, not all paper is the same, especially when it comes to artistic endeavours.Washi paper for origami is decidedly different from onionskin paper used to make kites and gliders. Copy paper is different than Inkjet paper and notebook paper is no t even in the same ballpark as sketch paper.So, while your favourite art supply store (or Amazon) may have lots of paper for sale, it would be best to bypass the many varieties of craft paper and steer toward actual watercolour paper.It may cost a bit more but your results will make the extra expense worth it.The Right Paintbrush for Watercolor PaintingYou don’t necessarily have to go top-of-the-line â€" that set of Kolinsky sable brushes can wait till you get a bit more proficient. Or, at least until you are sure you want to make watercolour painting a part of your life.With that being said, you shouldn’t scrape the bottom of the quality barrel for your brushes just because you’re a beginner. In fact, a poor-quality brush can skew your results and even turn you off of painting altogether!Some artists recommend that, before going all out on supplies, spend a little bit of time with artificial-fibre brushes to see if painting truly is for you and to get the feel of working with paint. Once you’ve determined that you do indeed want to paint, that will be the time to invest in some really good, natural-fibre brushes.The difference in feel and performance will so amaze you, you’ll never use an artificial brush again!With that out of the way, which brushes should you buy?Perhaps the best value for your money would be a set that includes small, medium and large round brushes as well as a mop brush and a flat brush. That should do, for starters.You should, however, avoid craft brushes; the bristles tend to be too rough for delicate watercolors. Such packs contain anywhere from 12 to 24 colours but the downside is that you won’t be able to mix them up â€" you will have all tubes or all cakes.Other supplies you might pick up while at the art store:A palette: a flat or shallow surface to mix paints on/inDrafting tape: while you could use any typ e of tape to keep your paper on the draft board, most will tear watercolour paper. Drafting tape will not.Tote boards are, essentially, giant-sized clipboards; they come in various sizesPencils and rubbers for making outlines and fixing mistakes, respectively.All other tools of the trade, such as masking fluid and tools for texturing can be purchased later, once you’ve decided that watercolour painting is definitely for you.Also, learn how to create texture in your paintings without relying on paper texture.Prepare Your SpaceYou may have seen, in countless films, how an artist’s studio tends toward the messy. While that is acceptable if you work with oil paints, the very nature of watercolours demands a bit of tidiness.Because watercolours are so fluid and fast, it will occasionally be necessary for you to have ready access to sponges, paper towels and clean water; working in a cluttered environment simply won’t do!First, give yourself enough space to work comfortably, making sure you have plenty of elbow room.Next, place all of your tools, colours and water pots within easy reach of your dominant hand â€" but not too close, you don’t want to risk knocking over that jar of water!You may also consider hanging a small towel from your waistband or another convenient place so that you can dry your brushes as needed. Energy is obtained by breaking down carbon based molecules in the process of respiration. Oxidation-reduction reactions are common chemical reactions involved in respiratory breakdown of molecules. Most organisms use oxygen obtained from outside for the process of respiration. Human respiratory system consists of respiratory tract-nose, pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchi, bronchioles, alveoli and the lungs. The nose is the part of entry for the atmospheric air. Externally it bears two nostrils represented by a cartilaginous septum and internally it opens in to a pair of nasal chambers. Thehair lining the nostrils traps the entry of dust or any other large foreign particles into the system. Themucustrap the harmful organisms. Pharynx is a common passage at the back of the mouth for air and food. Air enters the front tube called the trachea or wind pipe while food enters the hind tube called the esophagus. The opening of the wind pipe is guarded by a muscular flap called the epiglottis. Larynx is located at the start of the trachea is a hollow cartilaginous structure called the voice box. It is more prominent visible in males at the front of the neck and is popularly called the Adams apple. Itconsist of two muscular folds called vocal cords. Vibrations in these cords produce sounds. The trachea divides in the thoracic cavity into two bronchi-the left and right, which enter each lung and branch extensively into the bronchial tree. Both lungs contain 300 to 400 microscopic alveoli which in a normal adult have a diameter of 0.2mm. Incomplete rings of cartilage keep the trachea and bronchi distended and prevent their collapsing when the pressure inside them falls during inspiration. The cartilaginous rings also strengthen the walls of the trachea and bronchi. Bronchioles are without any cartilage.
